It is that time of year again. Less sunlight and colder temperatures combined are more than enough to have us feeling down. If this time of year consistently gets you down, there is one thing you can do to help not only yourself but others in the process. The act of giving is definitely a high point of the holiday season. This unconscious theme of giving to those less fortunate during the holidays is more than just a way to pay it forward; there are physical health benefits that come with giving. According to the Mental Health Foundation of the United Kingdom, Altruism has been shown to relieve stress which improves your immune system and will keep you healthier during the colder months. It brings a sense of belonging and helps make your community a better place. Some things you can do in your community to reap these benefits are volunteering, mentoring, contributing to a good cause, or a simple random act of kindness. These simple acts of giving can influence others to do the same in your community, creating a ripple effect of compassion for all to enjoy. Finney Family Dentistry is proud to sponsor their 4th Annual Food Drive benefitting the Salvation Army. We are blessed to live and work in a community with such a generous spirit. Because of the generosity of our patients, our drive has grown by leaps and bounds each year. So this holiday season you can be selfish about your health and give back to those in need. Every person who donates will be entered to win an electric toothbrush bundle and a fifty dollar gift card, the person who brings in the most donations (number of items) will win a twenty-five dollar gift card to Starbuck’s with our appreciation.
