If you have children? If you are part of the Finney Family Dental family? It’s Children’s Dental Health Month every month! This month is great opportunity to start new habits, lead by example, and demonstrate to our little ones that good habits start at home. With a tiny bit of diligence, your children can have a beautiful and healthy smile for a lifetime.

The American Dental Association (ADA) observed Children’s Dental Health Day for the first time on February 8, 1949. In 1955, this one-day event was extended to a week, and in 1981 to a month. Today, National Children’s Dental Health Month is observed every February. And as you know, the basics of brushing twice daily and flossing once is crucial to good habits. Until your child’s fine motor skills are fully developed, they will need help completing these daily tasks. It’s good to pair your own teeth brushing with your kids. Experts tell us that no one has more influence on our children than mom and dad.

This year, we at Finney are joining the ADA in encouraging everyone to drink a little more tap water. Not only is water always a better choice for your overall health, but it’s certainly the best choice for your mouth. The benefits of more water are vast and well-documented, but more importantly tap water is the primary source of flouride for many children. Developing teeth need all the help you can give them.

Be sure that your child is getting enough fluoride, keep their diets healthy with plenty of fruits and vegetables, scheduling and keeping dental appointments, and brushing and flossing daily. February is a great time to go back to basics. We are proud to be your partner in keeping your child’s smile a healthy one and are always here to answer any questions you might have. Together we can help your child follow healthy routines for years to come!
